AWARD WINNING LOCAL PHOTOGRAPHER CAPTURES THE BEAUTY OF CMGC.
Those of us who work and play at CMGC are very aware of what a beautiful and interesting course we have, however we need to get great photographs for our leaflets, brochures and website to let people who don’t know about CMGC see what we have to offer ~ after all they do say a picture is worth a thousand words! As the course is maturing so fast our pictures need constant updating so who better to ask than local award winning photographer Claire Carter. Claire who lives in Cleobury Mortimer has been commissioned to take a series of pictures through the seasons to capture the changing moods and colours of the course. Claire has been up at the crack of dawn walking around the course capturing images many of us will rarely see as the sun rises over the forest giving some incredible light effects. We have become really excited by the project and Claire’s enthusiasm and have already seen some superb pictures which will soon be on our website and on the walls of the clubhouse. When we have a good selection of images they will be made available to buy directly from Claire or through the club, we are also having special images of each of the par 3 holes that can be printed as mementos for anyone achieving a hole in one.
For more information on Claire Carter and her work visit the website www.carterart.co.uk

Men’s Medal 26/5/12
Summer sunshine graced Cleobury for the May medal and the scoring was just as hot as the temperatures. Jack Severn (70) and Simon Eades (68) both finished second in their respective divisions. Les Maidley rolled by the years in fine style to finish top in division two. Les made a string of pars and kept the high scores off his card to secure his first win of 2012.
The day however belong to Dave Leach who shot level par to secure a 66 and give him his first win of 2012. Dave put his victory down to a consistent display around the greens. ‘I have always been long off the tee but my short game was really sharp today. I aim to get my handicap down to 2 this year, hopefully more results like this will continue’.
Final Standings
Division 1
1st - Dave Leach 66
2nd - Simon Eades 68
Division 2
1st - Les Maidley 69
2nd - Jack Severn 70

Ping Putting App Success
Six handicapper Mike Broad was delighted with his PING putter fitting using the PING putting application and cradle. Mike came to Rob with a total lack of confidence when on the greens, and wanted to test whether his existing putter was right for his stroke. After a few putts it was clear that Mike’s problem was his alignment - his eye line was not over the ball and his shoulders not square. Rob introduced a few drills to combat this, with Mike’s alignment sorted the correct putter for his stroke could then be fitted. Mike was fitted with a strong arch putter and saw an improvement straight away: “My confidence has already increased from the drills Rob gave me, with this putter in the bag I hope to be back to my best”. Remember, putter fittings are free with Rob with every order, if you just want a putter fitting they cost £15. Do what Mike did today and hole more putts with a putter custom fit by booking one here.

Chris Barlow Sees a Reduction with his Custom Fit PING Irons
Chris Barlow with his brand new fully custom fit set of PING G20 irons saw a seven shot reduction in his first round with them. Chris kindly sent me these words on his custom fitting process to highlight the great service we offer at CMGC;
“I have been playing for about two and a half years and am still using my first set of off the shelf clubs. I had thought for a while about getting fitted clubs, but was unsure of the potential benefits. Rob spent some time discussing the strengths and weaknesses of my game, the latter taking considerably more time to cover than the former. He took some measurements and proceeded to clearly explain the variable components in a club and how these could be adjusted. Rob set up several clubs with different shaft lengths and lie angles and I hit some balls with each of these, eventually settling on a combination that included shafts which are longer than in my current clubs.I found Rob friendly and encouraging. He was interested in finding options that would offer me the chance to improve my game. There was no hard sell - indeed, he recommended that I stick with my current 60 degree wedge. I ordered PING G20 irons from 4 to SW, including a 52 degree wedge to cover the large gap between the distances I hit my PW and SW. The deal I had includes a half hour lesson with Rob and we agreed to consider whether there is a significant benefit in replacing my hybrid, three wood and driver following that lesson. If you’re considering changing clubs, I would certainly recommend speaking to Rob.”
Well done Chris and keep the great scoring going!!

Scratch Team Find Early Season Form!
The Cleobury scratch team continue to dominate all in front of them with another great home performance. They ran out 6-2 winners against a strong Branston team from Derbyshire. Captain Dean Carpenter was missing two of his regulars but the strength and depth of the squad was shown with Jason Sunderland and John Brazier coming in. Sam Pain, Dave Leach, John Brazier, Josh Carpenter and Ryan Taylor all recorded wins but Jack Pringle took the man of the match prize with a 7 & 5 victory.
With two home victories in the bag captain Carpenter had this to say ‘we have some tough away matches coming up that are going to test us, however with the team we have in place I am confident our third promotion in a row is going to happen’.
Well played lads
