Men’s Medal 26/5/12
Summer sunshine graced Cleobury for the May medal and the scoring was just as hot as the temperatures. Jack Severn (70) and Simon Eades (68) both finished second in their respective divisions. Les Maidley rolled by the years in fine style to finish top in division two. Les made a string of pars and kept the high scores off his card to secure his first win of 2012.
The day however belong to Dave Leach who shot level par to secure a 66 and give him his first win of 2012. Dave put his victory down to a consistent display around the greens. ‘I have always been long off the tee but my short game was really sharp today. I aim to get my handicap down to 2 this year, hopefully more results like this will continue’.

Nike brings out iphone app!!!

Cannot wait for this to come to Europe!!

Nike Golf Debuts New App to Help Golfers Better Themselves to Better Their Game

BEAVERTON, OR (May 22, 2012) - Nike Golf today announced the introduction of a new app and website that will provide golfers with an innovative digital tool to improve, track and share their golf game.  In keeping with the company’s aim to inspire, innovate for and enable golfers to become better, the new Nike Golf 360 (NG360) app is the beginning of Nike Golf’s move into a new era of potential for golfers.

The NG360 App is an easy-to-use tool that will allow golfers to track their rounds to see how they stack up; improve their swing techniques with the help of coaches; and view and implement athletic training workouts that are golf-specific.

“This is about serving the golf athlete.  It’s about knowing your game to better your performance,” said Nate Randle, U.S. Marketing Director for Nike Golf.  “The NG360 App lets golfers look at their game through a 360-degree lens. This is only the beginning of amazing things to come from Nike Golf as it relates to digital sport and the experience on and off the course.”

Nike Golf abides by the steadfast philosophy that every golfer is an athlete, and no two golfers are the same. With the NG360 App, each individual golfer has the unique opportunity to gain a clearer understanding of their own game, swing and body. As they begin to better understand themselves as golfers, they gain clarity on which areas of their game they need to focus. In other words, to know their game means to better their game – that is what the NG 360 App represents.

View the NG360 App video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RscoFWh9X0

The key components that make up version one of the app are:

My Game

Golfers can track their game by keeping statistics such as their scoring average, driving accuracy, greens in regulation and average putts per round. “My Game” allows golfers to see how they stack up by monitoring results and beating their personal bests.  Within “My Game,” golfers stay motivated by winning “trophies” as a result of improved statistics.

My Swing

Golfers can upload and compare video of their golf swing to their friends and Nike Golf athletes.  They can also receive personal coaching from Nike Swoosh Staff members who are PGA Teaching Professional instructors.  Swoosh Staff members can provide feedback and swing tips through a video swing analysis tool.

My Body

This will help golfers get into golf shape, thanks to Nike Golf’s partnership with the Gray Institute, the foremost leader in Applied Functional Science.  The Gray Institute has developed the NG360 Functional Performance System that is tailored to golf movements that the body makes, a clear distinction from other training systems.

My Gear

Golfers can navigate products on the website that are suitable to their needs, while also receiving product recommendations from the Nike Swoosh Staff.  Golfers can also upload the contents of their bags in the “What’s in their Bag” section.  “My Gear” will increasingly become more robust as the NG360 App evolves.

The new NG360 App is one piece of a bigger initiative that is a holistic approach to improving golfers’ performance through physical evaluation and training, custom fitting of equipment and digital tracking applications.

Scratch Team Find Early Season Form!
The Cleobury scratch team continue to dominate all in front of them with another great home performance. They ran out 6-2 winners against a strong Branston team from Derbyshire. Captain Dean Carpenter was missing two of his regulars but the strength and depth of the squad was shown with Jason Sunderland and John Brazier coming in. Sam Pain, Dave Leach, John Brazier, Josh Carpenter and Ryan Taylor all recorded wins but Jack Pringle took the man of the match prize with a 7 & 5 victory.
With two home victories in the bag captain Carpenter had this to say ‘we have some tough away matches coming up that are going to test us, however with the team we have in place I am confident our third promotion in a row is going to happen’.
Well played lads

Men’s trio stableford 20/5/2012
The competitions at Cleobury continue to be ever popular with a great field once again taking on the summer conditions. The trio is a unique competition with the best score counting on the first six holes, the best two on the next six and finally all three on the final six. Josh Allcock, Will Edwards and Robin Craig thought they did enough with their score of 78. However they were just pipped by the mighty trio of Richard Chandler, Jez Duffield and the man simply know as Tram. They recorded 80 points despite nearly throwing it away on the last with just two points between them.
The relieved trio had this to say once their victory was secured ‘we gelled well as a team and played some great golf when needed, a cheeky birdie on the 17th from Richard certainly helped the scorecard’

Men’s Medal
The men’s April medal once again saw a huge field take on the Spring conditions. Some fantastic scores were once again posted, with many players signaling their intent for a big season. Joe Harper and Josh Allcock shot a nett 67 and 68 to finish second in their perspective divisions. Mark Fish had the lowest score of the day with a 65 to take division one. The day however belonged to Simon Johnson who shot a nett 66 to take division two. Simon did the damage with the Nike VRS driver and his new Cleveland CG16 irons. Simon had seen his handicap steadily increasing, however the new equipment has transformed his game.
‘My driving is now so much straighter and longer which is leaving me less yardage into the green. The CG16 irons are very accurate which has made scoring so much easier’.
Simon has now seen his handicap cut and has set his sights on becoming a low teen handicapper. ‘My goal is to get down to 12 this year, with these clubs in my bag I am confident it can happen’.
Well played Simon!

The knockouts have been extended by another week!!!

Myself and Matt will be sounding everyone out this week to get them bigger and better than the last few years!!

Men’s Medal 14/4/12

The first medal of the season saw a massive field turn out, with what was the busiest medal in recent memory with all but two tee time fully booked. Roger Evans in his first competition since his return to Cleobury shot a 69 to give him second place in division 2. Jack Pringle equaled the lowest gross of the day to record a 68 which was good enough for second spot in division one.

Richard Daley who always performs in team competitions showed his individual side with a 67 to take division 2. Daley now sees his handicap cut and is closer to reaching his quest of becoming an 18 handicap golfer.

Division one was taken by Sam Pain who was part of the first group out at 7.30am, he managed to hold onto top spot all day with a 3 under par gross to give him a nett 67. This great score was helped by a stunning front nine with a birdie blitz around the Badgers Sett course.

Sam had this to say after his victory ‘I need to get down to scratch in the next six weeks, afters todays result I am getting closer. The great condition of the greens certainly helped me post this score, I haven’t played on better all year’.

Final standings

Division 1

Sam Pain - 67 nett

Jack Pringle - 68 nett

Division 2

Rich Daley - 67 nett

Roger Evans - 69 nett

Easter Open 12/4/12

The Easter Open at Cleobury was once again a massive success with over 130 golfers taking to the lush fairways of CMGC. The conditions on the day were tough with sunshine one minute and hail storms the next! Teams from Cleobury did well with Gary Mann leading his team to third spot, they were just pipped to second place by Nick Pomeroy and his Tewksbury team.

The mixed price went to Cleobury members Ian & Jenny Dorrell and Mark & Tracey Foster who are regulars to the club.

The top spot went to team Shorter, lead by their father Steve, his sons Mark, Craig and Dave were holing everything they looked at and even threw in a chip in for good measure. Dave and Mark are currently members and Steve confirmed that himself and Craig will be joining the club in July. With scores like this Team Shorter could well be one of the teams to look out for in the upcoming team competitions.

Here is what Steve and his sons had to say after their victory, ‘We played solidly throughout and made some great saves when needed. Cleobury is a great course and facility it is going to be a fun year for Team Shorter’!

Final Standings

1st Team Shorter - 58.6

3rd Gary Mann, Aaron Booton, Martin Bower, Steve Drew - 60.1 (Countback)
