Chris Barlow Sees a Reduction with his Custom Fit PING Irons
Chris Barlow with his brand new fully custom fit set of PING G20 irons saw a seven shot reduction in his first round with them. Chris kindly sent me these words on his custom fitting process to highlight the great service we offer at CMGC;
“I have been playing for about two and a half years and am still using my first set of off the shelf clubs. I had thought for a while about getting fitted clubs, but was unsure of the potential benefits. Rob spent some time discussing the strengths and weaknesses of my game, the latter taking considerably more time to cover than the former. He took some measurements and proceeded to clearly explain the variable components in a club and how these could be adjusted. Rob set up several clubs with different shaft lengths and lie angles and I hit some balls with each of these, eventually settling on a combination that included shafts which are longer than in my current clubs.I found Rob friendly and encouraging. He was interested in finding options that would offer me the chance to improve my game. There was no hard sell - indeed, he recommended that I stick with my current 60 degree wedge. I ordered PING G20 irons from 4 to SW, including a 52 degree wedge to cover the large gap between the distances I hit my PW and SW. The deal I had includes a half hour lesson with Rob and we agreed to consider whether there is a significant benefit in replacing my hybrid, three wood and driver following that lesson. If you’re considering changing clubs, I would certainly recommend speaking to Rob.”
Well done Chris and keep the great scoring going!!

Men’s Double Roll Up Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th January 2012

The men’s double roll up at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club was once again hugely successful with over 60 players battling the arctic conditions. After day one only two players managed to shoot under their handicaps Jason Sunderland with 37 poins and Mark Thompson with 38 points. Day two was just as tough with the ground not thawing out until mid morning and this time only Tony Willets managed to shoot under his handicap with 38 points to match Marks score. However due to the back count Mark came out on top to secure his first victory of 2012 he had this to say ‘I didn’t feel as though I was playing particularly well I was just scoring on every hole to keep the momentum going, starting 2012 with a victory is fantastic and I hope it is the first of many’.

Final Standings

1st Mark Thompson 38 points (CB)

2nd Tony Willets 38 points

3rd Jason Sunderland 37 points

4th Chris Hawkes 36 points (CB)

Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club’s Men’s Betterball
Saturday 7th January 2012
The first betterball competition of 2012 was closely contested with some very strong pairings wanting to start 2012 with a victory. Early starters the Johnson brothers shot 41 points which under normal circumstances would have won. However Tom Wright and Josh Carpenter pipped them to second place with 43 points. However the first victory of 2012 was completed by Mikey Jacks and Matt Broad who shot an incredible 46 points. Jacks was the star of the show as he shot 45 points on his own, however the always consist Matt was there to back him up. After securing the first competition win of 2012 the lads released this statement ‘2011 was a great golfing year for both of us and to start 2012 with victory is fantastic, it is going to be tough to emulate 2011 but its a challenge we are both relishing’.
Well played lads!

Men’s Double Roll Up
Friday 30th & Saturday 31st December
The double roll up at Cleobury was once again a massive success with 68 competitors over the two days. Players can play on either day with the top four scores over the two days taking the prize fund. After day one Tom Wright was leading the way with 37 points however because of the tough weather conditions higher scores were expected on day two. And they did not disappoint with both Rich Smith and Martin Bower shooting 39 points to take third and second place. Steve Lau however finished off 2011 in spectacular fashion playing off a hanidcap of 12 he shot a gross 73 to record a huge 46 points. Steve who has had a great year winning many competitions had this to say ‘Shooting 46 points in December is pretty much unheard of, but it was just one of those days! Everything just went in, this tops off a great year. My goal for 2012 is to become a single figure golfer’.
With scores like this in winter conditions everyone at CMGC is convinced this will happen! Best of luck Steve.

Men’s double roll up Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th december 2011

A fantastic turn out of 69 players took on the winter conditions to contest the double roll up at Cleobury. This unique competition allows players to compete on either day with the top four scores getting in the prizes. The conditions on the Saturday were very tough with the sub minus temperatures making it very difficult to judge distances. That did not stop Ian Duncan who had a fantastic 38 points to top the leader board ahead of Richard Smith on 35. Sunday proved much more fruitful on the scoring front both Paul Liggins and Dan Clark posting 38 points and with a better back count they finished second and third respectfully. The weekend belonged to long standing member Bob Lucas who despite the wind and rain on the back nine shot 39 points, Bob who recently returned from Australia having played in some seniors events was delighted to have secured victory. ‘I saw the leader board from Saturday and knew 38 was the score to beat, I started off very steady and just kept making pars and holing putts when I needed to, I am delighted with this victory considering the strong field and hope this form continues into the new year’.   Pictured is Bob Lucas after his victory

Ping putting app, is bring many happy customers! Both Ginny and Keith (pictured) are thrilled with their new ping putters after been custom fitted by Tim. Here are Keiths thoughts on it…… Although I have custom fitted clubs, I had never given any serious thought to being fitted for my putter. I just picked one off the shelf that ‘felt good’ and that after a few practice putts holed a few. However, at 17 handicap, I felt that I should be putting better than my average, I seemed to leave a lot of putts to the right and didn’t feel completely comfortable over the ball. I booked my fitting with Tim and he spent about 30 minutes with him. The new Ping App was amazing, clipped to the shaft of my existing two ball putter. The information was clear and easy to understand. This told me that I had a very good putting tempo, but the other information was not good. I had a strong arc putting stroke but the putter I had been using was ideal for a straight back and through putter, right at the other end of the scale from my method. As a result, my consistency of ball striking was poor, resulting in unreliable results. The App and Tim recommended I choose a heel/toe weighted putter that suited my stroke and after trying a few putters, I decided on a Ping Scottsdale. Within a week, this was delivered fitted to me at 35” and 1 degree upright. With the App again, Tim helped me familiarise myself with the new weapon and consistency of results were immediately identified from the App and the number of putts holed. Great service from the Tim Hall School Of Golf and Ping! I have certainly recommended this service to my friends and hope they will also benefit from it, but not too much to beat me! Last week myself Tim and Graham went over to Harrogate for the annual Foremost golf show. Foremost is the UK’s largest buying group and it gives us a great chance to check out the latest products coming in 2012. We were very impressed with Nike and Ping and it is looking very likely that Nike will be returning into the CMGC shop as of 2012!

However the best is yet to come… Please carry on reading below!

A Proud Moment in My Golfing Career - Winning EMP Pro Of The Year!! - By Tim Hall

it’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks for myself and my school of golf. Many of you are already aware that I have been chosen to head a teaching campaign with four other foremost golf professionals for the national club golfer magazine. The campaign will be featured in the monthly NCG magazine with the photo shoot being held at the very prestigious Hacienda de Alamo resort in Spain next month.

And yet this hasn’t been the end of the good news within the last few weeks. On Monday night I attended our annual buying group (foremost golf) Gala dinner in Harrogate. Foremost golf represent the largest golf buying group in Europe and provide a great service to over 1000 golf professionals in the UK. This week they had there annual golf show which is always starts off with the awards and Gala dinner. Awards are given out to recognize outstanding work within the group and I am very glad to report I picked up the award for EMP Pro of the year. The award commends me on my contiued online marketing work which includes areas like my website (www.timhallpro.co.uk), social media work, weekly e-newsletter and my work/initiatives with the CMGC/THSG members.

My E-newsletter and website is known to be the best around and it’s a great honor for me to win the award. The CEO of Foremost Paul Hedges and also BBC’s golf commentator Andrew Cotter presented me with the award and here are just of the pictures from the Gala Dinner –

I would like to personally thank Craig Thomson & Alan Crossan who are pictured above. Alan set up Retail Tribe a number of years ago to service the leisure industry with his innovative websites and powerful e-newsletters. Retail tribe are now known as the leading website and e-newsletter providers to the golf industry working with over 1200 professionals in the UK. Craig is my personal campaign manager who overseas all my work and puts it together to be produced weekly to a very high standard. After meeting with them at the show on Tuesday we discussed changes to both the e-newsletter and website for 2012 and i can safely say the changes are mind blowing.

Here’s to a great 2012 ……. Thanks again and happy golfing!!
