CMGC Scratch Team Progress Into Quarter Finals of Droitwich Shield
Cleobury’s scratch team continued their defence of The Droitwich Shield in fine style with a 2.5 - 0.5 home win against a very strong team from The Worcestershire. Captain Dean Carpenter once again had a full strength team at his disposal, despite two of the team being spotted in McDonalds Worcester at 4am the night before.
Captain Dean and Jack Pringle were in fine form and secured a 4 & 3 win after a feast of birdies. Sam Pain and Matt Broad found themselves two down after ten holes, however a late rally of three birdies turned the match on its head to give them a 3 & 2 victory. The first match out of Josh Carpenter and Tom Wright went the distance, however with the result already guaranteed the lads halved to give Cleobury another impressive win.
Captain Dean Carpenter had this to say after the victory ‘We look set to face Redditch in the Quarter finals at their place, however after beating such a strong team from the Worcestershire we do not fear anyone. We are defending champions at the end of the day, bring it on’!
